Zaha Hadid left us a rich legacy of some of the most well designed structures across the world. Her pioneering vision redefined architecture for the 21st century and captured imaginations across the globe. Her fluid and seamless concepts are symbols of human excellence and perseverance. Each of her projects elevated the possibilities of design, creating renewed excitement towards expressions which brought together the world of art and design.

Today marks the second death anniversary of one of the most iconic and legendary woman architect that our times have seen. A lot has been said and written about her work and life. We at The Tiles of India are taking this opportunity to showcase her brilliance one more time through the Unique Circle Yachts by Zaha Hadid Architects for Blohm+Voss.

The Unique Circle Yachts comprise five individual yachts with a length of 90m. Each yacht is a unique masterpiece featuring customized design elements whilst belonging to one design family originating from Zaha Hadid’s fluid design language. Zaha Hadid introduces her genuine, formal sensibility into naval design – transforming the vision of what a yacht can be.

Blohm+Voss is a reputed German ship building and engineering company, with more than 135 years of building vessels. Their experience, technology, expertise and facilities are unmatched. Their genius in combination with the design expertise of Zaha Hadid Architects has given us the concept of the “THE MOTHER SHIP” – A 128M YACHT CONCEPT. The point of departure for developing a unique circle of five exclusive 90m yacht designs is the 128m sculptural “mother ship” which has been conceived as an interwoven network of dynamic meshes on the exterior. The net gradually varies in density and thickness lending a natural aesthetic to the yacht’s external appearance – reminiscent of growth patterns in nature. This exoskeleton connects the various levels and decks of the ship seamlessly via expressive diagonals. Traditional yacht designs exhibit a strict horizontal order which has been altered towards a design of intense connectivity between the various decks which results in a novel outlook on future yacht design. Parametrically varied networks of interwoven volumes articulate and combine the commonly horizontally-ordered decks and their functional entities. The concept explores a fluid aesthetic that redefines the image of a yacht via an expressive exoskeleton of dynamic meshes.
