Bungalow NYC is more than just a restaurant—it is an immersive design experience that invites guests into a space deeply rooted in warmth, heritage, and storytelling. Located in the heart of New York City, Bungalow draws its inspiration from the intimate charm of Indian bungalow-style homes, reinterpreted through a modern lens to create a space that feels both familiar and fresh.
At its core, Bungalow’s design philosophy is about creating comfort through curated nostalgia. The space is thoughtfully divided into distinct zones, each with its own personality and purpose—from the inviting entry to the cozy lounge, the window-overlooking garden bar, and the open kitchen space, to the verandah-like seating, which is the highlight of the entire space. Every corner of Bungalow is crafted to evoke a memory, a feeling, or a sense of belonging. One can sense the slow pace of an old summer afternoon in the shaded verandah-style seating, while another area channels the quiet luxury of a formal dining room in a heritage home.
They have intentionally created a layout that slows you down—there’s no rush to be seated. A large part of the space is dedicated to a lounge area with a vintage almirah filled with cookbooks, where guests can wait, relax, and take it all in. Every corner has fresh flowers—marigolds, jasmine, and seasonal Indian blooms—to subtly introduce the cultural elements to younger guests, or to simply make someone smile.
The materials are layered and tactile—warm woods, brass details, carved accents, mirrors, and soft lighting—designed to feel lived-in, loved, and luxurious. It’s not themed. It’s soulful. And the team, led by Chef Vikas, brings the same energy to the service—thoughtful, personal, and always aiming to make guests feel at home.
The materials and finishes throughout the space are chosen with care. Every piece of furniture, chandelier, picture frame, or décor accent is custom-made specifically for Bungalow and serves as a quiet reference to Indian architectural tradition. Amber-colored lighting casts a soft glow, enhancing the space’s sense of intimacy. Vintage photographs and wood paneling, reminiscent of older Indian homes, add to the lived-in charm.
A key element in Bungalow’s design is its interplay between texture and light. Natural materials are paired with contrasts—Natural stone alongside polished brass, rustic wood against patterned wallpaper. Mirrors are used cleverly to expand the perception of space and reflect light, while lush indoor plants and fresh flowers introduce organic vibrancy. These tactile layers allow the space to feel luxurious yet grounded.
The color palette is jewel-toned and inviting, heightening the richness of the atmosphere, and enhancing the overall dining experience.
